Happy Holidays

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas (or whatever it might be that you celebrate) and you got to spend time with your friends and family.  Getting and giving are important parts of the season but spending time with those you care about is always the best part. Happy Holidays everyone!

2011 Calendars Marked Down!

I'm down to my last 4 calendars, so get them while you can.  Once these are gone I won't be printing any more until it's time for the 2012 calendars to come out. The calendars are 5x7" and include 12 of my images, one for every month.  This leaves you an image to frame once the month is finished. I normally sell my 5x5" prints for $10 each so it's a great deal since they're printed on the same high quality photo paper as my prints. Click here for further details and ways to display.  I've been selling these for $23 each, the new price is just $18 :).

It Snowed!

I can't believe we got a significant snowfall this early (or any snowfall whatsoever actually).  Now I realize 'significant' is a relative term and to those of you up north this is a piddling amount of snow :).  In TN, this is what closes schools and makes us stand outside and stare in wonder.

Here's a photo of my Golden Retriever Sesame that first day. She didn't know what to think about this strange stuff :)   :

And here is the backyard the second day, you can she where she and I had tracked all over the place camera in hand :

New Art Blocks

I'm debuting my new art blocks along with a new website today.    I've noticed that most of my customers came to my Etsy shop through my website (which didn't have a shopping cart) so I decided to just replace them both with a new website with a shopping cart and voila!    I'm still in the process of getting my art blocks listed (I have made lots and lots the last few months!) so if you check back every couple of days, you're sure to find something new.

My art blocks are gel transfers onto wood using my photographs, the process I'm using gives a very distressed,  vintage feel to the artwork.  The distressing goes well with my photographs since they tend to have a sweet vintage feel anyway.

Here are a few of my favorites :

The Quiet Side of Autumn

I was in the backyard this afternoon watching the sun play on the leaves that are left on the trees and noticed that the colors are actually quieting down.  I think of autumn as riotous oranges, reds, and rusts but observed there are lot of gray tree branches with pale yellow, almost white leaves clinging to their branches. The leaves on the ground, pale browns and creams. It was a surprise to realize I'd always overlooked this aspect of fall.  The following photos celebrate this understated, peaceful side of the changing season.

The Last of Autumn

We still have quite a few leaves left on the trees in the East Tennessee Valley although I know a lot of the nation is welcoming winter as I write.    This artwork is dedicated to the last cool crisp days before Old Man Winter makes his presence known.

What I'm Reading Now

I'm really interested in what I'm going to call Fairytale Chic at the moment.  Sort of Hansel and Gretal meets Alpine Chalet meets Modern-  I wouldn't want a whole house of it but touches here and there are fabulous.  This book is full of examples of things I'm loving!  It's very inspiring.  Here are some other things that say Fairytale Chic to me :

So fun!

My Favorite Colors

I think I go through phases involving my favorite color combinations and that's probably reflected in my work.  At the moment I absolutely LOVE orange and turquoise together :

What are some of your favorite color combos?

Rainy Tuesday

I love fall and I love rain....what a fabulous day!  I found a new favorite jewelry shop on Etsy called That Jewelry Girl .  Take a look at these lovelies :

My daughter would absolutely love that key with locket necklace (actually, I think it's 2 necklaces!).   She  has a tattoo very similar to that - just don't tell anyone LOL. She  turned 20 last month but Christmas is fast approaching hmmmm.  I don't think she even knows I have a blog, that's probably a good thing :).

Tampa Art Festival

Well, it wasn't actually in Tampa, it was in Wesley Chapel which is basically a suburb of Tampa.  The art festival was pretty awesome, the weather was absolutely perfect.   Here's a photo of my booth :

I actually have a banner that says "Jennifer Simpson Art Photography" but this is my new jurying photo so I had to blur it out lol.  I was happy with the booth, it looked all golden :).This was my second out of state art show, my first this year, and I do believe I'm hooked lol.  I love the traveling aspect of it, staying in a hotel, the sense of adventure.  How fun!
